Heading to Iskut - Blockade in Tahltan territory

On: 2009-09-26

We are heading up to Iskut because we have heard that Tahltans are blocking hunters from accessing the area and calling for similar hunting regulations to other BC districts in which moose hunting licenses are limited and available by lottery. We are hoping to talk to people there and find out more about what they are asking for and how the hunters they are turning back are reacting.

Yesterday evening we took a long ride up the Iron Road with a couple of old friends looking for moose. The 'road' is a winding, muddy track which extends several kilometers out into the bush beyond the Telegraph Creek road which ends at Glenora. They used a moose call built from a leather strip and a coffee can which produces a good rendition of a bull moose in rut. We stopped at a couple of swamps on the way up to call them out but the only wildlife we saw was a grouse.
